The Cote d’Azur is spoiled for choice when it comes to first class hotels, with a gamut of renowned establishments within a short drive of many of our most exclusive French Riviera real estate. Without doubt one of the most elegant and sought-after addresses in the area is the prestigious five star Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, on the Cap d’Antibes.

The History of Hotel du Cap Eden Roc

Situated half way between Antibes and Juan les Pins, the Cap d’Antibes is a pine-clad promontory scattered with magnificent Belle Epoque villas. Many of these grandiose properties were built by visiting gentry who became captivated by this special corner of France in the mid-19th century. One such visitor – Hippolyte de Villemessant – the founder of French newspaper Le Figaro from Paris, built the mansion now known as the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc in 1869, allegedly for writers seeking inspiration. The grandiose building was then bought by Italian hotelier Antoine Sella who opened the Grand Hotel du Cap in 1889. The rest, as they say, is history.

Standing majestically in more than 22 acres of sumptuous parkland, the hotel is barely visible to passers-by on the road which winds around this idyllic peninsula in the South of France. But such is its reputation as the place to stay for the rich and famous when they attend prestigious events like the Cannes Film Festival or holiday in this glorious part of the world that everyone is aware that it is there.

Hardly a summer goes by without photographs of stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Sharon Stone and Mick Jagger in the vicinity of this grandiose hotel situated near the water’s edge. In fact houses for sale on Cap d’Antibes are amongst the most sought-after in the region and those hunting for their dream villa in the South of France should definitely consider properties on this exclusive peninsula.
